WHY HIRE A GAS FITTER?

Gas fitters specialise is gas systems only. When you hire a gas fitter specialist, you can be assured that they will find a resolution to the issue you are facing.

Gas fitting is a different qualification to plumbing. Often, plumbers will offer gas fitting services, however it is important to note that a specialist will know more about the systems. A gas fitter trades person will be trained in repairs, servicing and fault finding – different to any other trade.

Gas fitters can cover all aspects relating to gas appliance repairs, gas hot water system installations, leak detection, issue resolution, emergency works and gas plumbing. A gas fitter will also complete complicated appliance services – such as those used in commercial restaurants.

Gas plumbers will run pipework and complete basic installations. Gas pumbers do have the same qualification as a gas fitter, but won’t have the same knowledge base when it comes to appliance servicing.

Plumbers may offer a combination of the above, however once again, won’t have the same specialist gas fitting knowledge. This certainly isn’t a bad thing – it just means that when an issue can’t be easily resolved, you need to hire a specialist.

DO YOU CHARGE CALL OUT FEES?

We do not charge call out fees for quotes. Rest assured that we only charge for our time on the project, after the quote has been accepted. We believe in charging fairly as we value return business.

In some instances where we need to cover our travel costs for a job, we will charge a call out fee on top of the labour. This fee is usually only applied to small jobs where we spend less than an hour on site, or for emergency call outs.

DO I NEED TO HAVE MY GAS APPLIANCES SERVICED?

Yes, it is important to have your gas appliances serviced and to have regular health checks. An un-serviced or un-healthy appliance can affect the combustion of the gas. For example, insufficient heat output, a yellow flame producing soot and most importantly, carbon dioxide.

When not serviced frequently, or properly, gas appliances have the potential to become dangerous. Your safety is our upmost priority, and we want to ensure a long life for your appliances. See the example below, showing an un-serviced hot water system. The build up of soot caught fire causing the flames to spread to the eaves on the house. Luckily, the owner was at home and could extinguish the fire quickly.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LPG, PROPANE AND NATURAL GAS?

LPG stands for Liquified Patroleum Gas. LPG is used where there is no access to gas mains. LPG will be delivered by your gas supplier in cylinder form.
Propane is the same as LPG, Propane is the American term for LPG and is often enough used or interchanged by some.

Natural Gas is normally piped in underground, through a gas meter. In some cases, LPG will be reticulated (supplied from a remote area through an underground pipe network) and may be mistaken for Natural Gas.

The physical properties of LPG and Natural Gas are very different. LPG is heavier than air and will sink to a low point when un-burnt. Natural Gas is lighter than air and will rise into the atmosphere. LPG is stored in liquid form, in the cylinder and is turned to vapour when drawn out of the cylinder. The volume will expand 270 times its’ own weight when transferred from liquid to vapour.

Due to these differences, it is important to note that you will require different appliances based on your supply (LPG or Natural Gas). Chat to us to learn more about which appliances will suit your gas supply best.
